Dear Daughter,
I'm having my breakfast, oatmeal with a banana on top of it. I really like them together.
Buddy called last night at 8:30, and talked until 9:35, but I enjoyed the conversation very much. We talked football, football, and football. Then we talked about his apartment how quiet and nice it would be there. He says he is moving October 7. Said he already got his Comcast set up, his water and lights hooked up. It is so exciting.
I am so very thankful that you had a conference call, which resulted in your not having to go to Jackson. I know you have a good time when you go to Jackson, but I worry the whole time you are there. So, I am very thankful for the call last night.
The naturalist who came over yesterday - I am so happy you had a good time, and I am glad that you and Gretchen had prepared your children so well, and I'm also glad that you and Gretchen took him to lunch. He probably had a better time that you did!
We are having egg omelet, which I love, for lunch today. Then on Friday we will have the Catfish -
I'm thinking that it would be nice if we called you at 4:00 Saturday afternoon. What do you think about that? We can toss it about, and see what we come up with.
Of course, I am planning to go to Church tonight. Please remind me and I will tell you a good joke about Dorothy Clay Sunday night. It is so funny, and I was in it, too. If we talk Saturday afternoon, I will tell you.
I don't think of anything else we have to do today, but I know something will come to mind.
Have a good day with the children -
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
After all the excitement yesterday, today will seem rather humdrum. It’s just back to the same old routine. Oh, well, that’s life. I’m sure that the same old routine will be just fine. As far as I know, there will be nothing except teaching my classes today. There was certainly nothing interesting about our evening. Fortunately, Stan got home at 5:30 so we had time for a quick dinner before my conference call at 6:00. The call lasted until almost 7:00 so I was glad we had already eaten. While the phone call was long, it was certainly better to spend an hour on the phone than to go to Jackson for yet another meeting so I was very willing to spend that hour talking. We were working on plans and schedules for the workshops (like I gave last year) for the teacher exam candidates. We will have two big workshop time frames—one in November and then again in February. I’m pretty busy in November but I suppose I’ll be free enough to do workshops in February. Anyway, whatever happens is fine with me.
So that about sums it up for me. Boy, am I boring! Really, I’m trying desperately to think of something interesting to say about today. The second graders are working on learning their parts of speech and writing interesting sentences. The third graders will finish up their little mini-unit on endangered animals. I’ve been trying to think of something interesting to do to finish this unit and haven’t really come up with anything but I’m still thinking and, hey, I’ve got until 8:00 a.m. so I’m sure I’ll come up with something by then!
It’s another clear and cool morning. I have certainly been enjoying these chilly nights and hope they continue. Don’t you enjoy being outside more when it starts to cool off? Well, I guess the middle of the day isn’t all that cool but mornings and late afternoons are quite nice. So have a nice time if you go out and I hope you all enjoy the day!
Bye--Ruth
