staying home

Dear Daughter,

Hope your meeting at Jackson at 7:00 this evening and tomorrow will be good meetings. They usually don't have meetings on Friday because some people might not be able to attend. But I hope every thing goes well with you. I'm glad you are taking a day of sick leave because it would push you to be there if you had to be teaching all day.

Be sure and call us, either on my cellphone, or on the regular phone. We will be anxious to hear if every thing is all right.

I'm going to have Marie and Fannie to come up here and exchange birthday gifts. As I told you last evening, I have four pies baked, so I don't have to worry about food. But I do have to get the table fixed, which won't be too hard.

I have to get dressed for going to the Beauty Parlor. I imagine the low is in the 60's. It looks like it will be a pretty day today, but tomorrow it's supposed to rain. Oh, well, I won't be out in it.

I hope the weather is fine for you -

Enjoy shopping. I guess that is just about my favorite thing to do!

Be good!!

Much love, M & D

P. S. I won't write tonight, but I will write twice tomorrow.

Dear Mother:

Good morning! My goodness but it’s nice to be home and relaxed! I am so glad that I decided to stay home today so that, if nothing else, I could get a good night’s sleep. So I’m in a very chirpy mood and looking forward both to my day at home and my leisurely trip to Jackson. It’s a beautiful day, also, so everything is hunkey-dorey!

Stan got home at 8:15 last night so, since I didn’t have to go to bed quite as early, we sat around and chatted a while. Still, I was in bed by 10:30 and fell asleep in about 30 seconds. I managed to wake up slightly before 8:30 so I could say goodbye to Stan before he went to work.

My plan is to stay home until about 1:00 and then have a slow and relaxed drive to Jackson, stopping in Batesville on the way. When I get to Jackson, I’ll have time to check into my hotel and then go shop or do whatever for an hour or so. My meeting is at 7:00 but it’s a small committee meeting. I’m on yet another MAE committee now called the Credentials Committee. We have the responsibility of signing in the delegates for the Representative Assembly tomorrow and verifying their credentials. Only delegates can vote and we have to make sure there is a quorum before the business meeting (where voting occurs). So we’re just having a meeting tonight to go over our duties and make sure we all understand procedures. Then tomorrow morning, we have to be there extra early (groan) because, obviously, we have to be there before delegates want to start registering. On the plus side, this only happens twice a year so it’s not a big deal.

Tomorrow, the assembly is supposed to be finished by 2:30. I’m pretty sure it will be because of football games. Not everyone will be heading back north for the Ole Miss game (which starts at 6:00) but there are all sorts of other games and everyone wants to go to their game of choice. So I am fairly sure I’ll be home in time to have dinner with Stan tomorrow evening by 6:00 or 6:30.

Hope you had a good experience at the hairdresser’s and that you both have a fun evening tonight and a wonderful day tomorrow. I’ll call when I get to Jackson. That will be anywhere from 4:30 to 6:30 depending on how much I shop on the way. And I’ll be careful!

Bye--Ruth
