Dear Daughter,
What a pretty Monday morning it is, not a cloud in the sky. It is 50 here, with the high going to be 69. It's a perfect day.
Was so happy to get your letter. What a joy it is having a computer, and it doesn't cost us a penny to have it. You even pay the amount each month for our service. I want to thank you for that!
Church was fine last night. They had a five page notes about how Bro. Conklin wants the church to be, which I will save and give to you and Stan. I want you to read it, because it is very easy to read, and tell me what you think about it. Daddy read it last night whenIi got home, and he didn't say much about it. It seems to me that it would be better just to let the Bible speak. How simple that would be.
I don't know what we will do today. At least Dillard's is "cleared out" and it won't be necessary to go and check on it and so I won't go today, except just to walk.
I have to go to the Pharmacy to get two prescriptions for me and one for Daddy. Then I may go to Walgreen's, just to walk.
You ought to see our refrigerator. It has all sorts of pie slices, banana bread, etc, and etc. I had pear preserves on a piece of bread that Rita had baked and brought to me. I couldn't eat much - the pear preserves is so good - looks like your Grandmother fixed it. I certainly want you to taste it.
At 8:30 last night, Chuck called me. They had flown, for their vacation, to New Hampshire and rented a car, and are driving it to various places during their stay. Cassie and her husband, Christie and Chuck were together for vacation. He said they are charging all their bills and, said it would be hard to pay them when they get back home. But he seemed cheerful, so that's worth it all, I think.
We are having fresh beans today, fresh candied yams, etc. for lunch today. Tomorrow we eat at the cafeteria.
Sorry you have after school duties today. I always hate that. I know your children will be happy to see you, and that they will want the computer. You will never know it, but all the children will remember you for years to come - how lovely a teacher they had!
Daddy is fine, and I am fine - isn't that great?
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
Good morning. Here we are at another Monday morning again. It’s always hard to go back to
work when you’ve had a little time off. I certainly did enjoy my little vacation on Friday, though, and I’m much happier than I think I would have been if I’d gone to work on Friday and then straight to Jackson. So I’m not complaining about going to work this morning—I’m in a happy mood and I’m looking forward to a good day.
The weather is SO delightful. The nights have gotten so cool that I think it would be fair to call them chilly. I just love it! The days are mild, the nights are chilly—perfect fall weather. As always, in the fall, it makes it somewhat challenging to know how to dress since whatever one wears in the morning will be too warm by the afternoon. My room, of course, has no windows so the outside temperature is not reflected by the inside temperature. In the hot weather, it’s cold in my room (because of the air conditioner blasting away) and in the cold weather, it’s hot in my room (because of the heater blasting away). So I never know how to dress!
Since I wasn’t at school on Friday, I know my children will complain about not having had computer day so I will compromise with them and have a partial computer day. We will work half of the period and we will have computer time the other half of the day. That should
make for a somewhat frenetic day going back and forth from work to play but it is the best I can do. There’s nothing special going on at school otherwise (other than the dreaded afternoon duty) so I expect to be able to come home at a reasonable hour.
After your big weekend, what will you be doing today? Taking it easy, I hope! When you write, tell me if Martha or Fannie came to the Flea Market. You didn’t mention it so I assume they weren’t feeling up to coming, but at least you had Rita and Harry there. How was church last night? Tell me everything you know! And both of you take it easy today!
Bye--Ruth
