Dear Daughter,
What a day we had. I really do think that Rita and Harry enjoy the flea market as much as I do. Daddy got up and dressed before 8:00, and said he would wait a little while before he went, and he never did come. But he went last night, and, I think enjoyed their visit. Harry and I played checkers, I won one game, and Harry won two.
We bought everything. Daddy enjoyed the paring knives, twenty-five cents each. I got a lamp for $2.00, bought some pretty gowns, four pretty Christmas stockings, two for Buddy and two for Phil and Marla, or better still I could give two to Baby!
It really and truly was not an expensive flea market. I will put everything on your bed, and take what you want.
Thank you for telling us that Ole Miss plays at 6:00. UT and South Carolina play at Knoxville at 6:45. What a good evening we look forward to having. Daddy is asleep now, but he will get up when I want him to.
Hope you are not too tired. Happy that you and Stan can stay at home tonight.
Will look forward to talking to you at 4:00 tomorrow evening -
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
All these trips back and forth--are they worth it? Probably not but I feel somewhat trapped into doing them. No, that's not fair. I enjoy my MAE jaunts and feel that I'm fulfilling a tiny duty that is worthwhile. It's just that I end up with very few weekends at home. Oh, well, at least I had yesterday morning at home, and I got home at a reasonable time this afternoon (3:30) so Stan and I can look forward to a nice evening at home. I think I'll even have time to cook!
The day in Jackson was fine except that I had to get up so early (6:45) in order to be at the registration table by 7:45. The next hour was very busy, but all the delegates were registered by 8:45 and my duties were officially over. The delegate assembly went quickly and amicably and was over by 10:00. Part of me said I should stay for the professional development sessions, but the other part of me wanted to go to Sam's Club to do a big shopping and then to drive home early--and that's the part that won!
So that was my day and now I'm going to relax, cook dinner, and go to bed early! Talk to you tomorrow....
Bye--Ruth
