Dear Daughter,,
I slept so well that I didn't even get up last night. That is very unusual, so I got a good night's rest. I don't know about Daddy, but he is sleeping soundly now, and I wouldn't dare wake him up.
Church was fine last night. I always enjoy Bro Richards' class. He didn't mention his Daughter who is ill, but I hope she is better.
Our bus was late last night, and it didn't get here until 7:00, so obviously we were late in getting to the church. When church was over, I called Daddy at 8:00, and I didn't get home until 8:30. Bro. Fraser was driving, and he seemed sort of grumpy. But, as Dorothy Clay says, our ride is free, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much, but it was aggravating.
We are going to have TV dinners for lunch. Then tomorrow is Catfish day at the cafeteria, so we will definitely be there.
I have to go to the bank today. But it is so pretty, that I don't mind getting out at all.
I hope your new schedule works all right for YOU. Take it as easy as you can!
Hope you have a good day -
We love you so much, and don't ever forget it -
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
Chilly, chilly, chilly! It’s 40 degrees on the dot this morning. Since the Weather Channel is reporting that Tupelo is 41, I think our thermometer is probably right. Oh, but I love fall and the chilly nights and the mild days! Of course, my room continues to be stuffy at school because it’s cool enough that the big school air conditioner doesn’t turn on all that often but, since my room has no windows, I don’t have any way of getting fresh or cool air to circulate. So I’ll always find something to grumble about but I still love fall!
Thursdays are my easy day although I’m still thinking about changing my schedule so I don’t know if it will be my easy day in the future. The schedule that I came up with for this year just didn’t work as well as I had thought/hoped so I’m probably going to change it. Gretchen has already changed her schedule since the 4th grade teachers were complaining about it rather vociferously. We try hard to keep the classroom teachers happy and on our side because if they get irritated about anything we do, they tend to take it out on our students. Several times we have found out that they keep our kids in from recess to make up work that they missed while they were in
Gifted. Whatever you may think of that, it goes against state gifted regulations and they aren’t supposed to do it. So we have problems with teachers who, to a great extent, seem to dislike gifted students. That was the very long way around to say that I’m trying to change my schedule to make teachers happy which will make it easier on my students. Even if it makes my schedule a little more difficult, my primary concern must be for my students.
Every day I say that I don’t have anything to do after school and every day I seem to think of something but today, after my afternoon duty, I really MUST go to the bank because I have to sign a form for our automatic savings withdrawal (which I changed) so, whether I think of something to do or not, I WILL leave school as soon as my afternoon duty is over!
Stan and I did get all the things you requested, so you’ll have your detergent and drinks. If we can stay awake tomorrow night, I’m sure we will enjoy our usual Friday night drive and dinner out. This has been a busy beginning to the school year. I can’t believe it’s just October! Well, anyway, we’ll enjoy seeing you all this weekend and it looks like the weather will be nice and mild so it will be fun for you all to go out to eat. Tell me about your day—and have a good one!
Bye--Ruth
