Dear Daughter,
What another gorgeous day it is today. The temperature is 46 degrees, so it's about like yours.
Phil called last night, and told us that Baby was fine and was kicking up a storm. We laughed about that. He says soon that Marla can't ride around any more. So, they are going for a short weekend this weekend. I have forgotten where he said they would go, but it is on the beach. Hope they enjoy it.
I went to the grocery yesterday, so I guess I will go back today. Let me tell you how much we made at the Flea Market - $1,l23. I think that was great. Doris is the Chairman of the House Committee, and she works all the time. She is definitely a good chairman.
I wanted to tell you about why I'm going back to the grocery. I bought two boxes of Russell Stover candy, which was on sale for $4.98, and they charged me $7.99, so I will take it back and have refund $6.00 each.
Let me tell you about our lunch. I really intended to go to cafeteria, the two of us, to have our lunch. But Daddy insisted on my calling Omaha Steaks, and placed an order for $59.00. That is their super special. So, we will have to wait until tomorrow. We are having today Filet Mignon - two of them, and that will the end of our Omaha Steak.
Daddy went out to carry the garbage last night. When he came back, he was all excited, and asked me to call a lady, I've forgotten her name. He saw her downstairs riding a chair, not a Scooter, but a chair that is smaller than a Scooter. Daddy and I went to her apartment and she gave us number to call. So, she said that it didn't cost her a penny, because she has Medicare, Type A and B. Daddy is very excited about it.
I think it is great about the 3rd Graders studying the Business Unit. I remember when you had them study the Stock Market, which was very good, too.
Hope you and Stan get to go out to dinner.
Have a great day -
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
Good morning. How chilly is it in Nashville? According to our thermometer, it is 41 degrees here. The Weather Channel says Tupelo is 45 degrees so I guess the real temperature is somewhere in between, but whatever it is, I still think it’s very comfortable. I do love this autumn weather! I hope it stays nice for the weekend but some of the forecasts say that it will warm up considerably on Saturday. Hope they are wrong!!
For whatever reason, I seem to be more tired this year than I have been in the past. Maybe it’s my pesky 2nd graders requiring too much energy. Anyway, by the time I had gotten home, fixed dinner, eaten dinner with Stan, cleaned up the kitchen, and taken my bath, there was very little time left in my evening because I went to bed at 8:30. I would have gone to bed at 8:00 if it hadn’t been too embarrassingly early! So there’s not much to say about my evening,
Today should be a fairly good day with the bumptious 2nd graders. I’m going to teach them how to do little puzzles called tangrams. This has always been popular over the years with second grade classes so I hope these 2nd graders will be equally intrigued. I let my 3rd grade class vote yesterday on what they wanted to do and they voted to do a Business unit. I last did a business unit about 3 years ago and the kids then really had a great time doing it so I’m relatively sure that my nice little 3rd grade class will enjoy it, too. When I get to school this morning, however, I need to scurry around to get all the "stuff" together to start it.
Well, today is payday so that’s always a reason to go to work! Stan said he might take me out to dinner to celebrate! I have a couple of errands to run this afternoon (after the dreaded afternoon duty) so it will be nice not to have to come home and fix dinner. That’s about it for my day. What about your day? You need to relax one of these days, Mother! Tell me what’s going on up there!
Bye--Ruth
