Dear Daughter,
Yesterday, the girl from Daytona Beach called me regarding the scooter or power chair. She filled out our forms that have to be filled before we can get a scooter. She asked if he used oxygen and I told her that he would not be living today without the oxygen. That put the scooter into a more valuable situation. She said Dr. Pierce would have to approve it and, if he did, the scooter would be ours. She asked me when Daddy would go to the doctor again, and I told her November 11, and she was happy over that.
Phil called last night. He said they went to a Bed and Breakfast on the beach. They spent Saturday night just eating in a seafood place, said they really enjoyed that the food.
I guess Buddy made it clear to you that he wants the Grand Prix on Thanksgiving. I know he will enjoy the car. When he talked to us about it, he didn't think he wanted it. I guess Anna wanted it. She is such a sweet girl!
I think you said you were going to return to Oxford Friday, then you would have a little time to get some rest. Know you will enjoy looking for your Ford Victorian next week.
Daddy and I are planning to go to the cafeteria for lunch. He was asking me last night which suit he would wear. That sounded good to me.
Pat is coming next Tuesday, the 14th. I looked in my diary to see when she was here the last time. She is very faithful about coming.
I will have to go to the bank and to the grocery store today. We received the $400 check from Putnam, so I have to go to the grocery store to deposit it.
I know the Third Graders like you very much, and, at least some of the Second Graders!
Have a good day -
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
Time marches on and here it is, Tuesday, the day before I leave for Biloxi. The weather is warm again which will, at least, get me ready to go to the balmy Gulf Coast. This week is going to be over before I know it! There is today, however, to deal with so I guess I’d better not start thinking about the end of the week quite yet. How are you this morning, Mother? Did your alarm work, by the way? I forgot to ask you yesterday. I hope you don’t have any other things break for awhile. It can be so aggravating, can’t it?
Not much is going on today at school, thank goodness. The second graders will be finishing up the thinking skills unit today so that part of their education is now complete. They are voting today on what they would like to study next (from a list of units from which I told them they could choose) so they think they are big deals getting to vote on what they will study when, in reality, I’m manipulating them rather outrageously! I keep trying to do with this pesky bunch what I’ve always done with nicer groups in hopes that maybe they will surprise me and respond by being more responsible. Maybe… The third graders are enjoying their business unit and today will actually start the process of thinking about possible ideas for the business that they are going to plan.
There are several things I need at Wal Mart so I plan to go shopping as soon as school is out today. Whether or not I will be able to manage to cook dinner is debatable but maybe I can pick up something at Wal Mart for dinner while I’m there. I did most of my packing last night so I won’t have to do that this evening other than to put in a few little things. So that’s it for me for today. Now tell me all about your day and what you plan to do. I hope you don’t have to do more than go get that prescription so that you can continue to take good care of yourself. I still worry that you might have gotten Stan’s cold so I want you all to continue to be cautious and get plenty of rest for another couple of days.
Bye--Ruth
