Dear Daughter,
It's 50 degrees here, and it will get to 64 today. Last night it was raining when we went to bed at 11:00, but this morning it was not raining, but it looks like it.
We didn't do much last night. Watched a movie, but I have forgotten the name of it. We just sit around and enjoy talking to one another. I remember you and Daddy used to talk to one another while I napped. He will talk to me about anything I want to talk about.
Buddy called last night. He said he was afraid we had gone to play bingo, but I told him that was just once a month. He was telling us about Saturday, the anniversary of his and Anna's first date. He's going to get all dressed up in a tuxedo, and they are going to see Carmen (?) and she is going to wear a long evening dress. It sounds so exciting!
I'm worried about you and the second graders. I don't think you will ever get to like one another. I don't know the answer, but I do worry about you!! You are the only little girl I had, and if something is bothering you, it is certainly bothering me. Daddy was saying last night, that if anything happened to you, our lives would be over. So, please be careful for your sake and for our sake. We love you.
I did not know about your going to the MS association for Gifted Teachers in Biloxi next week. That is a long distance to drive. I can't tell you how worried we will be.
I'm not sure Daddy knows all about the Scooter or the Power Chair. We will just have to wait and let them bring them out here to see. Hopefully, it would be Friday, but we just don't know.
Daddy has cooked himself a rather large steak, and has the green pepper and onion chopped, to make me an omelet, so there goes our lunch at the cafeteria. Maybe Friday we can to go eat Catfish.
Thanks for you nice, long letter.
You are definitely our little trooper.
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
Good Wednesday morning. While Wednesday is a long day, it is also the middle of the week which means that it is possible to look forward to the weekend. Unfortunately, I have morning duty today and tomorrow (in addition to my afternoon duty) because I traded with someone. I’m taking two of her days this week and she will take the two days I’ll miss next week. I’ll be gone to the Mississippi Association of Gifted Children conference in Biloxi, by the way. So it will be a long day but then I have Thursday to look forward to and Thursday is my easy day and then there is Friday which will be computer day. So Wednesday isn’t all that bad! Also, I had thought I would be going out with Gretchen and Katie for dinner but Katie found out that she had to stay late at her school so we have decided to put off our dinner to another time.
Because I was so sleepy yesterday, I went to bed moderately early last night. I would have gone to bed a little earlier than I did but I ended up having a long Yahoo "chat" with Buddy last night. I think he probably called you when he finished "chatting" with me. Actually, we were so busy talking about computer stuff that I never asked him about his apartment. I guess there’s not much to say about it until he moves, however. Anyway, I finished chatting on the computer with Buddy at 8:00 and then I got straight into bed and was asleep by 8:15 or 8:20. So I got a good night’s sleep finally and feel much better this
morning.
School will just be regular old school today, I guess. The second graders are near the end of the big thinking skills unit that I do with the new second graders every year. So we’ll finish all this curriculum by early next week, then I’ll be gone to the convention, and then we’ll be ready to start their first real unit. I’ll be interested (and have some apprehension) to see how the second graders deal with independent work and the demands of research and projects. I’m not terribly hopeful but maybe they’ll surprise me.
So tell me about everything going on up there. I’ll look forward to hearing all about your plans.
Bye--Ruth
