Dear Daughter,
We got your letter this morning. I know how tired you must be by now. Hope this weekend will be a good rest for you.
Isabelle called again today. When she called around 11:00, Daddy and I had gone to the cafeteria for lunch. When we finally called, she told us the news about the family. Sandra has a new Principal where she teaches. They tried to cooperate with him/her, but she said now that Sandra is doing pretty much as she wants to do. She said they didn't like the new Principal. Isn't that the way that it usually happens?
I went out to the Mall today. Went to Hecht's to get some little staves that go in a shirt collar to keep the collar from turning up. Saw Jane at Hecht's. I asked about Margaret Anne, and she said that she is not any better. She said that Howard called one of her doctors yesterday and and really was rough on him. He said if they didn't quit passing her on from one doctor to another that she was going to lose her job. So, I don't know what is going to happen to her.
I received the box of yarn that you sent to me, and I was so glad to get it. I plan to start crocheting on it maybe tonight.
I had a letter from Stan this morning, and he said that the two of you might go look at some more cars. Hope all goes well with you.
Hope you are home, or that you will be home soon -
Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:
Good morning and thank you for your letter. It’s foggy and misty here, which is what it has been like for the past several mornings. On Wednesday morning, when we left to go to Biloxi, it was foggy (but had burned off by the time we were on the road). We are in a very still weather pattern but, supposedly, a cold front will go through Sunday night or Monday morning and we’ll get a little wind and cooler air so maybe we’ll stop feeling like we live on a mushroom farm when that happens.
You can’t imagine how nice it was to sleep in my own bed, in my own room, with no TV on and with nobody getting up and turning on lights! I am just a fussy, particular person but I have to say that I don’t like having a "roommate" when I go on these trips. Usually I am happy to pay for my own room for two reasons: the first is that rooms don’t usually cost too terribly much so I figure that I’ll indulge myself and be happy but these rooms were $129 a night plus tax so I didn’t want to spend that much; the second reason is that usually we are staying at a Marriott or Crowne Plaza (part of Holiday Inn) so I get points which makes me happy but this hotel was not either of those and didn’t give points so there was nothing to be gained by paying for my own room. But enough griping—I’m home and I am fine and I should be grateful that the school paid for all of us to go.
We both slept until 8:30 and are trying to wake up and get ready to go out to look at the two Crown Victorias so that we can select one of them. Stan is going to start by offering 19,000 but we are willing to go up to 20,000. The asking price is 24,000. Do you think we are expecting too much of a deal? The salesman apparently indicated to Stan that they were anxious to move these models off the lot so I think we are in a position of strength. We have managed to amass the cash so we are prepared to write a check. Actually, we’ll be prepared to write a check on Monday after I go to the bank but we figured we’d "do the deal" today and then they can get it all cleaned up and we can pick it up one day next week. This coming week will be very busy for us but maybe we can find time to run out and pick up a car! Anyway, Stan says that if they won’t take 20,000, he is going to stand up and say goodbye and walk away for good. I hope they’ll take the 20,000!!!! Obviously I’ll let you know what happens.
Well, gotta run. The Ole Miss game is at 2:00 by the way, but I don’t know if it’s on TV. Go Vols!
Bye--Ruth
