going out to eat

Dear Daughter,

Rita called about 8:00 this morning, and said they were coming here at 10:30 and were going to take us to the Olive Garden. She said Harry really loved the Olive Garden, and, I do, too. I don't think Daddy likes it too well, but he is just glad to get out.

I told Rita that we would pay for it, and she said she had a certain way with waiters. So they are going to pay. Harry has to get back to Dyersburg. They came on the way, so they have to get going as soon as we eat.

Guess what? On our bulletin board is two or three copies ofthe memos sent by Dot that, unless we help her out by beginning to work more, that she will have to close the doors, and if the door is locked, we cannot receive our mail. So, I went down to talk with her as soon as I read the memos. She sad every word of her memos was true. I told her that I could work two hours every other week on any night except Sunday night and Wednesday night. So, I'm going to work Thursday nights from 4 to 6, which isn't bad at all.

I don't think Daddy will go to play bingo with me tonight. I wish he felt like it, but I don't think he will after going out to eat. But he is still okay, but, of course, tires very easily.

Love, M &D

Dear Mother:

What a busy day you all had! I can’t believe you went to the Olive Garden but I know it was a big treat. I agree, however, that it’s quite a distance and that you REALLY have to want to go that far to make it worth it. I know, also, that you wish Rita and Harry would let you pay. Even if they did sell their house, I’m sure they don’t have that much extra cash floating around. Maybe next time you all can tell them that you refuse to go unless they let you pay!

Your comment about Dot was rather strange. I can understand partially that you might need someone sitting on the desk during the day but, frankly, I don’t see what sitting on the desk at night has to do with mail delivery. Moreover, we lived (and the boys have lived) in buildings that were locked day and night. Postmen are given a key to get in since they are considered reliable people. I just think she was either making that up or that she doesn’t understand how apartment buildings work. I imagine you will enjoy sitting on the desk but I don’t think that it will or should influence the delivery of mail. The more I hear about Dot, the less I think she is really competent to manage an apartment building, if you don’t mind my saying so.

The experiments with the second graders went well. My schedule has changed so I only have one second grade class on Tuesday. That means that the experiments that I did with one class today will be repeated with the other two classes tomorrow. This was my rambunctious second grade class so the fact that the experiments went pretty well encourages me to think that things will go really well tomorrow with my two better classes. Fortunately, it was a beautiful day so our messy, watery experiments were fun to do outdoors. I’m actually looking forward to doing these experiments over again tomorrow with the “good” classes.

Stan and I went out to eat at the Mexican restaurant since it was after 5:00 when I got home. I stayed at school to work on reading fair stuff and lesson plans and my teacher website. After I left school, I went to the Dollar Store to get some supplies for school so I was really late getting home. I hope you had a good time at bingo and I hope you both enjoy talking to Buddy. I had a nice Yahoo chat on the computer with him today so I don’t feel left out anymore! Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Bye--Ruth
