off to Jackson again

Dear Daughter,

I noticed on TV this morning, that most of the rain is going to the south of us. Like Murfreesbo, Tullahoma, etc., so that is good. It is raining nw, but not very hard.

I had already thought that we would go down to cafeteria, at the usual time, and then I could take my time, but probably go to the Beauty Shop this afternoon, so you and I had the same thought.

I know every thing's will be right in Jackson. I had thought too about the traffic being heavy when you get there, but, as you say, you will have to get accustomed to driving in traffic, so I guess you might as well go slow, I know you do, and be careful.

I don't plan to do anything else, except the Beauty Shop and to eat. When they finish with doing my hair, I might go to Hecht's and look at suits. Daddy told me last night to get my gift and have it wrapped. I asked him what he wanted, and he said some gold toe socks. I told him he could get a new suit, but, he says he has 18 in his closet, so there is no need to get him anything else unless he tells us to. I want to get for you something else rather than your suit, so you be thinking about it.

Today, I'm going to make two pecan pies, one for Church Sunday night, and the other for Rita and Harry, when they come on Saturday night, about 6:00 PM. I really don't think they will eat with us because when they get here, they will have to go pretty soon to Cross Plains, which is forty miles from Nashville, because, Rita said they might have to eat Saturday night with a man where Harry is going to preach, so I really don't know, but I guess we will find it all out.

Daddy is sleeping away. Incidentally, did you know that NYbeat Boston last night? I know you were probably for Boston, but, as you know, NY has always been our team.

Ole Miss plays tomorrow in Oxford, don't know the time. UT plays Alabama at 2:30, NY plays baseball tomorrow night, so we just have all sorts of things to do tomorrow.

Be careful!!

Much love, M & D

Dear Mother:

Thanks for your note last night telling me that your meat had arrived. I promise to make the whole process work better if you want to order anything from them again. I’ll order from the internet while we are there or I can do it from home. Either way will work and I can charge it on my credit card and you can give me a check which will make the whole process go many times faster. As for your going somewhere, it looks like it will be rainy today so I think you won’t be able to go to the beauty shop yet again. Maybe right after lunch you can go since I think the rain is moving through fairly rapidly. Thunder woke me up a couple of times during the night and when I woke, I heard plenty of rain coming down. It seems to be past us now, however, so maybe it will pass through Nashville by mid morning.

It may be Friday but it’s not quite the end of my week since I have to go to Jackson this afternoon. I spent all of last evening getting my papers and handouts ready for this meeting. While it’s not exactly a workshop I’m giving, another woman and I are training some people who will be helping us with our teacher exam workshops this year. So I’ll be doing the reading and writing training and she’ll do the math training. We were both supposed to have packets of material ready so they could be given out to the trainees. Well, I finally got all my stuff ready and faxed it to the MAE office about 9:00 last night so they should be able to duplicate it and have it ready by tonight. Having done that and washed my hair, I still had to pack but eventually I got it all done. Whew! I’ll be happy to be quiet and peaceful in my car this afternoon. That’s another reason I’m looking forward to this afternoon—my car! I think I’ll really enjoy driving to Jackson in my new car although I’m a little nervous about all the traffic in Jackson in a new, larger car. Well, I’ll have to get used to driving the Crown Vic in Jackson sooner or later since I go there so often and I guess it might as well be sooner.

This is computer day so I believe and hope that it won’t be too stressful. I’m going to leave school as soon as I possibly can so I can get to Jackson in time for my 6:30 meeting. I’ll give you a brief call to let you know I’m there but I’ll be going straight to my meeting so it will be a brief call. Hope you all have a good evening with Rita and Harry!

Bye--Ruth
